MUŽA, an acronym for Mużew Nazzjonali tal-Arti, evokes the Muses of ancient mythology. Malta’s national community art museum features works ranging from the 15th century to the early 21st century. Its varied collection includes paintings, sculptures, furniture, silverware, works on paper and objets d’art. MUŻA’s aim is to illustrate artistic developments in Malta, influenced by its Mediterranean context and by the cultural impacts of the periods of governance of the Order of St. John (1530-1798), the British Empire (1800-1964), as well as the post-independence period (1964-) and the worldwide influence of the Church.
